Inconel 718

Nickel and chromium are found in more significant amounts in Inconel than in other metals and alloys. Inconel’s properties, such as resistance to high-temperature oxidation and the ability to withstand temperatures up to 2200°F make it ideal for a variety of applications.

Chemically, Inconel is made up of a variety of metals, but what sets it apart is that it contains 61.5 percent nickel, 22.5 percent chromium, and 0.05 percent carbon. Carbon availability makes the alloy stronger and more durable. It has an 80000 Psi tensile strength and can yield up to 30000 at a 35 percent elongation. Inconel 601 is also a ductile metal. Inconel has the following grades-

  • Inconel 600
  • Inconel 601
  • Inconel 718
  • Inconel 800
  • Inconel 825

We’ll concentrate on Inconel 718 in this article. Since it is an Inconel grade, the 718 is similar to Inconel in some ways. Nickel and Chromium are readily available, the grade is highly resistant to corrosion and other harsh conditions. Inconel 718 has a minimum nickel content of 58 percent. The Chromium content of 20-23 percent and the molybdenum content of 10.0 percent. What sets Inconel 718 apart is the presence of columbium and tantalum together at 4.15 percent. Inconel 718 has a tensile strength of 910 MPa, yield strength of 468 MPa, and a 47 percent elongation.

Inconel 718 Round Bars

A round bar is a long circular object with a diameter that varies but is circular in shape. These bars are solid and filled entirely with the alloy. The non-magnetic property of 718 is one of its characteristics. Because it is a nickel-based alloy, it is resistant to corrosion and oxidation. Grade 718 can withstand a wide range of corrosive conditions including salt water, fresh water, alkaline, salts, and all types of air. The grade can be obtained by hot working at temperatures as high as 2100° F.

Applications of Inconel Round Bar

The alloy 718 is used in a variety of industries. De-aerating heaters and Marine engineering are some of the industries that use Inconel 718 manufactured products. All of the aforementioned industries rely heavily on Inconel 718 because it is an alloy that can withstand the harsh conditions and temperatures they face.

As this alloy is also more durable, it is best suited for such applications. Inconel 718 products are widely used in chemical processing where they are converted into pipes that are stronger and more durable. This alloy can also withstand chemicals supports for-

  • Steam Superheaters
  • Power generation
  • Heat-treating muffles and retorts
  • Radiator tubes
  • Catalyst support grids in nitric acid production
  • Aerospace heat treating industry and so on.

Inconel 718 is used for a lot of applications and for use it is forged into shapes like-

  • Pipes
  • Tubes
  • Sheets
  • Plates
  • Coils
  • Flanges

Uses of Inconel 718 Round Bars

In a variety of industries, Inconel round bars are used to make heat exchanger header bars, metal seals, wire rope for mooring cables, and chemical processing components.

Inconel has a very high melting point and performs well at high temperatures thanks to this combination which also includes columbium and molybdenum. Inconel 718 is also very easy to weld when compared to other Inconel variants. Inconel 718 round bars can be used in various applications including jet engine exhausts, flare stacks seawater equipment and chemical plant equipment due to their high chemical and temperature resistance.
